New Baby Monk Seal at
Poipu Beach

For the second time in twelve months
a monk seal has given birth to a baby on Poipu Beach. The monk seal
is on the Federal Endangered Species list and is thought to number only
about 1500 in the world. They are found mostly on the northern Hawaiian
Islands, although Kauai has a population of around 15 (now 16).
Due to the fact that the mother will
abandon its pup if humans come too close, it is very important that they
be given space until the baby is weaned. This birth occurred July
22nd and we except the new pup to be on its way sometime after Labor Day.
Those of you that were fortunate enough to be here at this time had a unique
opportunity to see mother and pup resting on the sand, swimming in the
bay and otherwise acting like mother and child. It really was a sight
to behold.

Web Site Improvements:
-
There’s a new look to our website.
The home page has been redone with a new collage of photos and new copy.
The Directory on the left hand side has been expanded which now
makes it much more useful. There is a new “Maps and Directions”
page to help everyone locate the property. We have added a “Photo
Contest” page, so send us your best Kauai shots and win a Hawaiian
tropical flower arrangement delivered fresh to your door.
-
There is a new “Related Links”
page, which we are still building. Eventually it will be divided
into sections such as dining, shopping, sea adventures, air adventures,
etc. to provide you with links to the websites of popular things to do
and see on Kauai. The Guest Book has been renamed “Testimonials”
and allows us to include comments from the new guests books in each Villa
which everyone is writing in.
-
Our eZine “FYI Kauai” now has
its own button in the Directory and you can enter our contest “FREE
Drawing” directly from the Directory as well. Most all of the
photos on the “Villas and Rates” page have been re-shot and additional
pictures have been added. We think you’ll like the result.
Many thanks to our webmaster
Brian Barnes for his fine work on this project.
Property Improvements:

Coming in the next three months will
be new parking for the Coral and Dolphin up closer to the Villas and concrete
walk ways from the parking area to both Villas. Additional landscaping
and lighting will border the walk ways.
