Poipu Spa & Fitness Use Permit Approved
Kauai County's Planning Commission unanimously approved the use permit application for the proposed Poipu Spa and Fitness Center, an 11,000 square foot facility located on Poipu Road, in front of Kiahuna Tennis Club. The owners are now in the process of obtaining building permits, with hopes to be under construction as soon as possible. Opening is anticipated for late 2006, so we will most likely see the Spa completed sometime in early 2007.
New Village at Poipu to have 500 Units
The E.A. Knudsen Trust recently filed an Environmental Impact Statement with the State of Hawaii for a proposed development of up to 500 units extending north from undeveloped lands between the Weliweli Tract and the Kiahuna Tennis Club. The project includes 216 to 369 single-family home sites on 150 acres and 134 multifamily homes on nine acres. Also proposed are 12 acres for parks and 20 acres of archaeological preservation. One phase, a 50-unit condominium development near the tennis club, may be under construction as early as this fall. Previously used as pasture land, zoning is a mix of residential and open space.
