This was alarm month with the folks at Paragon Protection Services installing our very own smoke/fire/entry alarm system in the 2307 building. The system was required by our insurance company. It seems that over a certain loan amount, all insurance companies require that a system be installed. The requirement is that you have motion sensors, smoke alarms and doors and windows monitors all connected up to a central system. In addition, this system must be continuously monitored 24 hours a day at a central monitoring station.
This means that if you're a gourmet cook and mess up, creating lots of smoke pouring out of your frying pan, not only will you hear the smoke alarm go off, you'll receive a phone call from the monitoring company to advise you your smoke detector has gone off. That's probably a good thing, because the foremost question on your mind at this point will probably be "How do I turn this damn thing off?" The answer is, like most all smoke detectors, the noise goes off when the smoke goes away, usually about three minutes later.
